When I was a kid, I saw this man on TV and instantly knew that what he was doing was cool. The tone was just different than everyone else. He got me started playing guitar for almost 40 years. It was a sad day when this cat left us to play the big venue with Elvis, Frank, Janis, Jimi and the rest. Rest in peace Mr. Berry.

When Prince died a huge deal was made, but when Chuck passed not so much. Fact is Chuck had more talent and had more influence on contemporary music then Prince would have had if he had lived another 100 years! I will miss Rock n Rolls true KING!

And he used a pick-up band for each show. The promoter provided the band and an amp. The first thing Chuck did was go to the office to get paid IN CASH. He held back a few hundred and gave it back if the amp worked and the band was OK. He Checked his guitar into luggage, wrote them off when they wore out from travel. Thousands of musicians have played in a Chuck Berry band, Bruce Springsteen was one of them.

I got his autograph in the Denver airport back in the 80's. He was just sitting on a bench with two old ladys. I almost crapped and went to the counter to get a pen and he signed my ticket envelope with a little smily face! I just found it yesterday going through some old stuff! :)

Its been said that if you can’t play Chuck Berry’s guitar licks, you can't play rock and roll electric guitar.\nOne of the true pioneers of rock and roll music (and arguably the single most influential) he is an inspiration to legions of young boys (including myself) who learned how to play the electric guitar.\nAside from writing some of music’s most memorable rock tunes, Berry also had a significant influence on the development of both rock-and-roll in general and the attitude commonly associated with the rock music lifestyle. The swagger of his stage performances is without question responsible for countless front men that followed him from AC/DC’s Angus Young to Prince.\nFocusing on the guitar riff as the primary melodic element in his songs, combined with an emphasis on songwriting as a form of storytelling, he developed a unique style that has spawned countless garage bands many of which are household names now.\nTalk about being influential? How’s this for standing alone?\n(From Wikipedia) Chuck Berry's \

For all you people who will follow and insist on using this site to argue your point,WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!? HUH!? This is music, specifically rock and roll on that we can all agree, but why do you demean it and the people who started it,STARTED IT!, created a form of art, CHEEZ!, by arguing who was the first, who was the king, who was the best, Etc. This man, Elvis, Little Richard, Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino, Bill Haley & the Comets who recorded 'Rock Around the Clock' in 1954. It's stupid and who really cares?, if you like who you like what else is there?, it's not a competition nobody gets more points than the other, just listen to it and enjoy it, if you don't like it listen to what you do like! JUDAS PRIEST, discuss it civilly or just shut up, please. Thank you
Walter Mrak

I saw Chuck back in the sixties after he got out of clink for illegal shagging. We met his manager who told us not to mention prison - as if we would - but just ask for his autograph. I remember him as being tall and bad tempered - a bit of a let down after I had bought all his records. His stage performance was not too brilliant - just jogging aound like he does here hoping his acrobatics will take your mind off the repetitious chord twanging.\n\nI suppose it did for some... not me. I bought no more of his records and even sold some of my collection. But not 'Carol' which is still to my mind one of the best rock records ever.
